A two month old!

Funny I have heard my parents say how fast their kids have grown and how fast time goes, but until you get a taste of it you can never really understand. It's been two months since Annie was born and she has already grown out of most of her PJs! I can't believe it!

I am a DAD!

After twelve hours of labor and an hour of a pushing my wife delivered our baby girl Annie! Now I have never seen a baby delivered, even in biology class I didn’t see this, and it was one of the most life changing events of my life. I had two major take aways from this experience the first is fairly obvious its way harder to a woman than a man! The amount of work and time my wife put in was incredible, not to mention how patient and positive she was through the entire labor. The second lesson I learned was if ever there was a person that didn’t believe a God than they need to be in the room when someone close them delivers a baby! This is the most amazing, humbling, and life changing event that takes place. There is no way that after being part of this that a higher power cannot be acknowledged, you would have to be a fool to not acknowledge it.

Without going in to too much detail about the delivery, the amount of love, hope, and concern that I had for this little new life was immediate. For the first six minutes of her life she didn’t breathe, you could tell she was trying but she wasn’t able to inhale. My heart immediately sunk, suddenly half a dozen nurses rushed into the room to aide our little Annie. Soon she was screaming but needed to be admitted to the NICU. After a long night she was out, back in her mother’s arms and we were able to cuddle and snuggle with her. She is truly a miracle and both my wife and I are so fortunate to have her in our lives!

My True Passion

I was all set on telling everyone what a wonderful Valentines Day we had and how a little planning goes a long way. I thought about reviewing the service and food at a recent resraunt we ate at. I enven considered telling everyone about our stay at the Blue Boar in. But all of those things seemed so trivial today.
This morning at 3:45 am my wife went in to labor! We rushed to the hospital, and got all setup in bed, now twelve hours hours later, Lindsay is still in labor. It funny I was asked about two months ago what my passion was and i have been thinking about that ever since. My passion is my family I dont know where I would be with out my wife, I can put into words how I feel about her and how important she is to me. I also cant express how I feel about our little daughter who is coming in to the world today. I am so exited to be a husband and father!

When serving breakfast in bed you're going to want to consider a couple of things!

Ok fellas I learned a very two valuable lessons this weekend.  Number one make sure the door is opened wide enough to get yourself and the breakfast tray your holding through it.  The second lesson is like the first don’t drop the tray! After we had eaten our breakfast in bed I was taking the tray back to the kitchen, while I was leaving the bedroom the tray caught the door handle and you guessed it, smash! Glass everywhere, ketchup up the side of the wall, what a huge mess!  If that wasn’t bad enough this past week I have also broken one bowl and another one of our glass cups. So over all this week I have destroyed three glasses and one bowl.  I have heard it said that some husbands develop Sympathetic Pregnancy Syndrome or Couvade syndrome. Which means that some husbands display the same pregnancy effects their wife’s experience! Hmmm, weight gain yep I’ve got that; some forgetfulness, yep just look at the picture, oh great! I can only imagine what’s next!! Ha! Even though I am systematically destroying our inventory of dishes my wife just laughed and together we cleaned up the mess. It was a fun memory that is going to be immortalized in our 2013 Shutterfly book! Which means that for future generations to come each generation will be able to enjoy my embarrassment! So husbands remember, DO NOT DROP THE TRAY!

Breast Feeding Class

Yesterday Lindsay, my wife, and I attended a breast feeding class. I had no idea what to expect. Oh boy, I have to say that women are tough! Let’s step back and look at this at this pregnancy situation for a second. Number one she is carrying around a child for nine months and she can’t take her stomach off like a back pack. Number two she will have to deliver our little girl, large object small opening enough said!! And third she will be breast feeding for the long while, up to a year! And that process was referred to as being stuck with lots of little needles each time her body prepares to feed, no thanks!!!I am amazed!

I have to say I was pretty ignorant, I thought breast feeding would be simple, I had no idea how much technique was involved. There is a ton that goes into the prepping for the feeding different ways to handle the child while feeding and time frames to make sure the baby gets enough milk. Not to mention there is the possibility of her or my wife getting sick due to breast feeding, wow!

The class was held at the Central Utah Woman’s Clinic in American Fork. Our instructor was a mother of three and works in the Labor and Delivery Department for American Fork Hospital; she was a guru on this topic. The Class lasted for about an hour and a half and covered everything from the best way to get your newborn to latch to the father’s role in the feeding process. I highly recommend this class it was very informative.

I have to admit I knew very little and I feel like there is only so much I can do. At the end of the class I asked the instructor if there was anything that I could do to help make this easier for her, her response was just do everything you can to make her comfortable. She also added, which if any guys fall into this category then sorry but you’re an idiot, don’t be critical of her. She said to talk and communicate and see what you can do to make this a good experience.

I know I am new at this but I am constantly amazed at how strong my wife is, independent, beautiful and the whole package! This whole pregnancy process makes me love her even more. I am also so amazed at how much I already love our little unborn Annie! I can wait to see her!

Hello all! The purpose of this blog is to reach out to new husbands and fathers everywhere and figure out how to do these jobs! I am just new to being a husband and I am a soon to be father! Yikes!  I look at my dad, he's a pro, he's got grand kids hanging off his arms and he has tons of energy and knows how to keep the kids happy and entertained. I play with my neices and nephews and I loose interest or they loose interest and go play with grandpa!
Anyway my story is pretty basic I got married to my beautiful wife a little over a year ago, and may I add its the best thing I have ever done. I know it sounds cliche to say that because every country song, romantic movie, or old man says that to people around them, but its true! She is the woman of my dreams and seven and a half months pregnant! Through out this past year I have been thinking i wish there was a handbook I could go to or a person I could ask about these problems, questions, concerns, and a sounding board to figure things out. You know things like budgeting, conflict resolution, finding quality time with your wife, and just keeping things fun and light in your relationship.
There we are! its hard to believe that we have been married over a year already, if this is any indication of how life is going to fly by I better find some way to slow things down!
